The Great Neck Park District would like to congratulate Commissioner Robert A. Lincoln Jr., who has announced his retirement after 21 years of serving the district as Park Commissioner.
Commissioner Lincoln has been involved with the Great Neck Park District since the early 1970’s. In the year 2000, he was elected to the Great Neck Park District Board of Commissioners and continued to be re-elected every third year since. His background is in both government and the private sector, which has brought a unique perspective to the Park District in the areas of planning, maintenance and administration. He is a tremendous advocate for all users of Great Neck's parks and cares about people of all ages and interests. He also has been very involved in the Great Neck Historical Society and has worked on the Steppingstone Lighthouse restoration project.
Commissioner Lincoln worked for the Nassau County Fire Service Academy, starting as a substitute instructor, working his way up to Chief Instructor and retiring as the Superintendent of the Nassau County Vocational Education Board. In addition to serving the Great Neck Community in his capacity as Park District Commissioner, he has been a volunteer firefighter with the Vigilant Fire Company protecting the residents of Great Neck for close to 60 years, having served as Chief, twice.
Jason Marra, current Park District Superintendent, said "Since 2016, Commissioner Lincoln has been a champion for the Park District and a valuable resource due to his wealth of knowledge in the operational procedures and his historical knowledge of the Great Neck community. This combination provided me with the support needed in order to be successful, which I will be forever grateful for. Under his tenure as Commissioner he was essential in positioning the Park District for continued growth in order to meet the ever-changing recreation and leisure needs of the community."
