COVID-19 has presented us with many challenges and uncertainty, but we have used this as an opportunity to plan for future program enhancements to help develop each player and our teams as we await further guidance from New York State.

Commencing on October 26th, the Great Neck Park District (GNPD) is excited to announce the addition of premier hockey training provider -TOP SHELF HOCKEY to our Bruins travel hockey program. Top Shelf Hockey will bring an intensive athletic development program to the Bruins which is designed to develop dynamic skills on an off the ice, specifically for our young athletes to reach their maximum potential.

Top Shelf coaches will provide training to each Bruins age group every week throughout our modified pre-season.  The program will consist of one (1) hour of off-ice training, along with one (1) hour of on-ice training.

In addition, the GNPD has also coordinated with Top Shelf Hockey a goaltending practice once a week for Mites thru Midgets.

Off-Ice Training
Top Shelf Hockey helps players transition to the next level of hockey by teaching off-ice exercises that will increase strength, speed, power, and explosiveness, as well decrease the risk of injury during the season.

On-Ice Training
This program’s on-ice training stresses the importance of strong fundamental skating combined with ample puck handling and shooting.

The GNPD is currently working on program enhancements and structure for a regular non COVID-19 restricted season.  We are focused on improving our program communication with parents and players, building team camaraderie, and enhancing our players development through on and off-ice training.

At this time, we continue to follow NYS guidance with regards to COVID-19 restrictions and look forward to updating the Bruins program once more information becomes available. We believe that the new structure we have put in place for a modified COVID-19 season will prepare each player and team for a potential regular season in 2020-21. The health and safety of our community is first and foremost during this challenging time.
